Ferrets 2000

The Friendly ferret racing display team, we are ferret enthusuasts who enjoy giving displays  and informing the public about our furry friends.

Ferrets 2000 was founded in 1999 from a small group of people with years of experience in keeping ferrets. We attend lots of shows during the year from large game fairs to school fetes and parties.

Our work includes giving educational talks, to schools  and clubs about ferrets, our ferret racing  its entertaining fun and exciting, picking the winning ferret could not be more  fun.

Ferret Roulette is for smaller events which can be run indoors, or parties, ferrets are placed in a  drum with exits around the base the first ferret out is the winner.

Race nights are very popular for raising funds for clubs ,schools and groups or donations etc . good for the winter nights,

Ferreting and What it Entails

Ferreting is a sport which can be enjoyed by young and old alike and also serves the useful purpose of helping to control the rabbit population. we make all our own nets, and inform the landowner when we are attending the site, rabbits are making a come back, trees/ plants and crops cost money to replace, sports fields / parks were people enjoy their time can be taken  over by rabbits digging holes,  making  it unsafe to go there. we get  callls from the small garden owner  to  large Farms and Estates. plus English Nature

Purse nets are set  over the holes, with other nets including hedge, long and stop nets all being used,  the ferrets are fitted with collars and can be located under ground.

Please do not hesitate to call us for help and advice on you rabbit problem,  be it rabbit proofing, drop boxes, fencing, trapping, or ferreting. please call now.

Net making or longnetting ( The old ways of  pegging) demonstration for your club or ferret group. or just a chat about ferrets. are popular just contact  us for more information.

Ferret Origins

The Ferret is not a wild animal

Ferrets are most likely to have decended from the European Polecat although the Stepple Polecat can not be ruled out as an ancestor.

Domestication was probably in or before roman times and it is likely that they were introduced to these islands about the same time along with the rabbit.

Also Interesting is that there are many albinos among ferrets. Which seem to suggest that during domestication more albinos were selected for breeding
